This a good option for the William Powell Bridge and Bear Cut Bridge. It is very difficult to enforce the all too high speed limit on the bridges. Motorists love to speed on the bridges; they know it is difficult to catch them speeding.

    But will roadies use it?

I consider myself a roadie and would use it. The large pelotons will just have to learn how to ride like normal civilized human beings. It may be tough for some of them though.

Think about how good it would be to see southbeach and brickell/downtown connected; or midtown over the 79thst. bridge to the island.

This would be great – you avoid fighting off the pedestrians, and you’re safe from the cars. But, would the large groups of cyclists on the weekends, who when I drive to Key Biscayne are as scary and badly behaved as the other cars, really conform? Miami is amazing – not just drivers, but pedestrians and bicyclists, are rude, flagrant violators of the laws, and dangerous!

I think this is a good option for commuters and useful in increasing the number of recreational cyclists. Some only need to travel 14 mph to get their aerobic fix but others need 20 mph and faster. The video shows dedicated areas for cyclists in Vancouver. It shows commuters “..beginner cyclists, young people..” using barricaded areas to get over bridges but it looks like they are not doing this for recreation. On the Rickenbacker this would attract cyclists who have a little less confidence sharing the road fwith other vehicles. People & families are more willing to ride once they get over that fear. As the number of these riders within the barricades increases, a max speed limit will be set and enforced by the flow of traffic, probably around 14 mph. Roadies would have to continue sharing the road with motor vehicles.
