I went to Rosa Mexicano the other day at Mary Brickell Village for dinner and was extremely disappointed to witness the state of the complex (very satisfied by the food, however.) This place is a disaster! The pictures below really don’t do it justice. I was more than appalled to see what should have been one of our premier pedestrian areas in such a state of disrepair. Besides the obvious vacancy, missing condominium tower, and abandoned Publix space, most of the western half of the complex has been ripped apart to fix some piping. The whole complex’s air conditioning was out of order and supplanted by temporary portable units.

I’ve been here a few times, it’s just a shame that there is hardly anything original at this plaza. I would just love to see many local businesses occupying the spaces. I was shocked when they built it that it didn’t have a condo attachment. Being in such a prime location and having metro-mover access. The developers could have done a great job but chose mediocrity instead, but mediocre is the status quo.

I feel the same way about the variety of businesses there. I was hoping for some unique stores or restaurants that were not tied to a national brand. The space itself is mediocre. The outdoor space at Perricone’s has more ambiance than all of Mary Brickell Villages combined and tripled.

BUT!! I am still happy it is there. More restaurant choices (I keep hearing awesome things about Rosa’s…) is always a good thing. The area is/was definitely lacking for the amount of residents in the area.

The Publix did not make sense. Perhaps a smaller scale Fresh Market or Gardner’s can tie us over until Met2 is done with it’s Whole Foods.

Honestly I had not noticed the construction mess (I usually just drive through) but the entire area (S. Miami Ave) is a mess right now… I just try and look past the dust.

    GIVE THEM SOME TIME !!!

they will fix the mess soon, and the village will be awsome.

All the empty space will eventually get filled by mid 2008.

And the publix that they were planning to open is NOT a regular publix, it is a GOURMET GREENWISE PUBLIX. I still dont know if that would go or not. i hope it goes, as this would be a high end supermarket, not the regular store.

if not a fresh market could be a good option.

hope to see you all at the brickell village!!!!

brickell continues to be the best location in south florida!

publix is gross. i’m happy the plans for that fell through – greenwise or not. we need more grocery store selection. i haven’t been to visit the new space, but if its all national chain stores and construction, doesn’t seem like there’s much reason to check it out.

Publix is great. It is far superior to all the other chains down here. While I enjoy wild oats. I cannot stand the veradero’s, navaros, winn dixies. They are terrible. Publix is always clean and it has green options which is a far leap ahead of the competition. When Whole Foods opens I will shop there for somethings, but publix won’t take my whole paycheck.
I’m glad to hear that the greenwise publix is opening and not another regular publix as there are 2 about a mile away from each other.

Yes but those 2 Publix’s (not actually a mile away but only 6 blocks apart) are both full every time I go in them (weekly). So apparently the demand is great enough in that area for 2, I’m sure Publix did their research when placing this third one. They must feel that the population can handle a third.

It’s kinda like the AMC at Aventura and Lowmans plaza (before they tore that one down) were always full even though they were only blocks apart. I guess it was all those old rich Aventureans with no job and nothing to do (lol). Meanwhile the downtown/midtown area STILL lacks a (16+) theater complex (usually best when a mall is attached).
