I cruised on down to my bicycle shop today (Miami Beach Bicycle Center) and struck up conversation with owner Jack Ruiz regarding the closure of the Ventian Causeay. A dedicated Venetian Causeway rider himself, Jack said that despite construction beginning on May 1st, the crew has so far kept one lane open for travel. Ruiz also commented that he tends to ride early in the morning, which may have something to do the lane being open.

It is likely that they have done so for the beginning stages of the project, so I wouldn’t go cruising over the islands from the mainland just yet, as you may be sorely disappointed. However, for us Beach dwellers it may be worth checking out, at least for the next few days. I plan to have a look tomorrow morning to see if the story remains the same.

In the meantime, Transit Miami wants to hear from you.

Is the bridge still open? Have you bicycled or jogged over the MacArthur yet? Have you given up bicycling for the month in fear of the MacArthur? Or are you simply putting your bike on the bus?

Let us know!

I rode there yesterday afternoon. The 2 lanes of traffic over the bridge were merged onto one & were being directed by workers. I asked one of them when the bridge would be fully closed & he said Thursday.

To confirm, Thursday is closing day for the Venetian. The crew found a creative way to work underneath the bridge for a few more days so that the interruption was somewhat less severe. Or so said the construction manager I talked to while crossing the bridge today.
