The Brickell Avenue bus stop between 14th and 15th Street burned to a crisp.
For what must be the 3rd or 4th time in the past year and a half the same Brickell bus stop on Brickell and 15th Street has been wiped out by a speeding car. The problem here is that the bus stop is located on a dangerous curve and when cars come barreling down Brickell Avenue at night they head straight for the bus stop. I’m pretty sure drunk driving has something to do with this problem, but speeding is certainly a major factor in these accidents. The way Brickell Avenue is designed encourages speeding; we need to design this road to discourage speeding. Moving the bus stop should also be considered. Sooner or later someone waiting for the bus will get struck. If you are familiar with the area please feel free to suggest other improvements in the comments section below.

Brickell Ave is a 35mph roadway, how fast do you think you have to be going to do something like that.
I wonder what improvements if any the FDOT would consider to make this roadway safer.
I gave up my car roughly 18 months ago and thus have spent much time walking around to various bus stops in Miami-Dade and Broward. In that time, I have come to the conclusion that precious few, if any, of the people who design roads takes the time to consider the pedestrian/biker. In the case of this bus stop, I wonder if the designer who picked that specific location bothered to sit at that exact site and determine if it was a good spot: Was it in the line of distracted or speeding drivers? Could you see the bus coming while sitting at the to-be-erected bus seating? Were there trees around to shade the shelter from the sun?
Every time I see a huge SUV with one driver, I think, “Burn that fuel”. The sooner it becomes scarce and more people HAVE to walk/bike/take transit, the better things will be for those of us at the current bleeding edge.
This is a grave concern for me having to wait for the bus if I’m standing/sitting at the particular bus stop. The bus stop should be moved away from the corner.
