We’re pleased to announce the addition of a very talented transportation advocate from Miami Beach, Ms. Gabrielle Redfern. Her efforts to bring the first bike lanes to the city of Miami Beach (the infamous 3 block section on 42nd street) spurned her interest in other opportunities to increase mobility throughout Miami Beach. She is a member of the Miami Beach Design & Review Board, a member of the Mayor’s Blue Ribbon Task Force on Bikeways on Miami Beach, and a former member of the BPAC. Gabrielle is a self proclaimed “transit junkie” and a welcomed addition to our staff. Her first article will be appearing by the end of the week.

For our regular readers, you will definitely notice the changes. For those who may be joining us for the first time, you’re looking at an evolution in progress. TransitMiami has left Blogger as its platform for communicating with you, and has moved to WordPress. WordPress offers a bit more flexibility, more stability, and loads more opportunity for managing the information we want to provide to you, our members.
As we continue to expand more into WordPress, to start using more of its capabilities, we may experience some growing pains. For example, right now, some of our members are unable to see that we’re back up and running after a short break. Problems like these should iron themselves out as the domain registrar change that just went through ripples through the Internet Blogosphere.
After these somewhat minor issues do work themselves out, and the lights come back on for all of our readers, our bloggers will soon learn that they have more tools at their hands that will enhance their experience of writing. This should allow us to deliver the transit and urban development news to you faster, clearer, and in a format that is easy to read!
The Transit Miami Site will be switching to a new server and platform any minute now…
Sorry about the lack of activity lately, I’ve been mulling over my Graduate school decisions while working to finish up at UF (more on both of these very soon…)

I’m pretty sure the email feed service is having issues. I apologize to those of you receiving posts a week old, I’m not exactly sure what is causing this. I’ll do my best to resolve the issue before Monday.
Over the coming weeks, months perhaps, we here at TransitMiami will be working hard to reshape and rework the website with new content and a new message. We plan on using your feedback to shape the site in a new direction and by bringing you more of the type of content you’d like to see. We are also working on finally forging some relationships with the agencies which matter most in Miami. My e-mails to MDT director Harpal Kapoor have thus far fallen on deaf ears (blind eyes, perhaps?) We’d like to establish ourselves as a bigger voice in the community for transit/planning advocacy and plan on doing so with or without the help of the agencies responsible for much of our planning problems thus far (FDOT, MPO, MDT, BCT, etc…)

Our sidebars have changed over the past few weeks, some dead sites were removed from the Miami/Transportation blog rolls and a whole bunch more were added…
It’s back! Email, that is. Thanks to the reminder I received from Walter, I spent the better part of yesterday afternoon (5 hours) importing all the old blog posts from the previous site. I had to complete the imports in order to not disrupt the regular email function. The emails are powered by feedburner and I’ve been using them myself for the past few months. I should note however, that readers will receive a daily digest which is sometimes a day or so behind schedule. In other words, you may still want to visit the site for the most recent news or to leave us some much appreciated comments! I’ve also taken the liberty of adding everyone from the former list to the new one, as well as some of you regular readers…
On that note, after reaching a plateau from November through February, Transit Miami witnessed unprecedented growth last March with our best readership and user involvement ever. I hope we can continue to grow, spreading the word of intelligent urban planning principles and the benefits of Public Transit in
While we have reached an all time high for daily visitors, remarkably our Technorati ranking has dipped severely. If anyone perhaps can think of a reason why, let me know. It’s important for our message to reach as many people as possible through many links to the website. - As most of you already know, Ryan and I are working hard to bring you the latest Urban Planning and Development news. Our goal is to bring about change in Miami through educated discussion on the various planning issues which concern our region. We’d like to hear what you have to say either through comments or by emailing us: MoveMiami@gmail.com.
- I’ve been working to expand the site to something bigger than just a blog with better content, further regional support/involvement, and greater community discussion. I’ll fill you in on the added pages or content as it comes online over the next few months. The new pages will be accessible via links from the main blog, under the “Transit Miami Pages” subsection of the sidebar. The first available section is a historical photo archive I established to depict Miami’s growth since the early 1900’s. We’ve come a long way in our short 110 year existence. I think its important to see where we’ve been before we continue planning for the future…
- The posts have changed to now include Technorati tags (look below.) E-mail will be available once I finish importing all the archived posts from last year. So far I’ve completed August 2006. You’ll notice the archived files will be lacking photographs due to the change in server and the formatting will likely look horrendous; I’ll also be working to clean this up.
- A new Miami Planning blog has surfaced…Benji’s Planning World is now sharing thoughts on Urban Planning from Miami and around the world…
- Kingofrance shared this in the comments section; I’m surprised there hasn’t been much publicity on the subject:
“…this is “Bike to Work Week” for the City of Miami Beach. There’s even some places (Pizza Rustica, Miss Yip) that will give you a 10% discount if you ride your bike there. Also, on Wednesday, you can ride the bus for free if you have your bike with you.”

- Well, I don’t know if anyone has noticed or not, but, I’ve gone about the arduous task of importing all of the previous blog entries (one by one due to blogger’s lack of an import feature…) This process is going rather slow, but, the archives should be back up within the next few weeks…
- Also, you may wish to update your links; seeing that Transit Miami is now fully accessible through www.TransitMiami.com. Yeah, I cut the blogspot back out of the domain again. However, you may notice (IE users) that you can’t access the page by typing in just http://transitmiami.com (minor glitch I’m working to fix) unless you are using firefox which will add the www in for you…
- E-mail service will be returning soon, once I resolve an issue behind the fact that Ryan’s Posts do not get sent out via e-mail for some odd blogger reason or another…
- The sidebar has been updated with new links, Transit websites, Blogs, Feeds, and a new headline bar bringing the latest news from the Planetizen Page…
