Bicyclist Killed on Biscayne Boulevard
A source close to Transit Miami has informed us that 17-year-old Rodolfo Mex Rojo was hit by a car and killed on Friday morning between 2:00am-3:00am near 113th and Biscayne Blvd. Rodolfo was riding his bicycle with a 17-year-old friend in the right hand lane and both had lights on their bicycles. Rodolfo was hit from behind by a speeding car and passed away on the spot. No word if the motorist was charged with vehicular manslaughter. Unfortunately, incidents like this go underreported and this particular incident was not reported in the Miami Herald. Our condolences go out to the family of Rodolfo MexRojo.

wow! seems like I read about a bicycle death at least once a week!
this really hits close to home. I was taking a 3 bus around that time specifically because I was so tired from critical mass earlier.
tragedy.
is there anywhere on the internet we can get access to these incidents? like police reports or something?
it’d really suck if the herald doesn’t cover this, but then again I don’t expect much from a traditional newspaper anymore.
Any one want to start a local citizen news source with me?
My condolences to Rodolfo’s family. I know the Miami cycling community will be there for them during this difficult time.
I would like to ask anyone who is familiar with the details of the incident to go to http://www.RoadGuardian.com to report and mark it. Over time this information and the details from other incidents will become valuable to other cyclists on where potential risky spots exist on our roads.
Thank you,
Joe Mizereck

What a tragedy, indeed. I cringe whenever I hear about bicycle accidents and deaths because I will be using my bicycle more frequently for commute because I’m getting ready to go ENTIRELY car-free in the following months. This is why organizations such as Critical Mass are so necessary.
Prem, I’d be willing to help out, but I don’t live in Miami proper. I’m all the way in the northern burbs. How would we get started?
Prem and ROG – email me and I’ll set up a way for you both to contribute this information on TM.
Tony, what’s your E-mail address?
Also, ROG, my idea is to get together a rather small group at first which can personalize routes to the content of the participants. There are many very interesting areas and sights in the North Miami area. I’m by Skylake mall myself, which is pretty close to Aventura. I bike to downtown and Miami Beach often, so I’d like to get a different flavor sometimes, y’know?
Tony, how thoughtful of you for offering your service, and how wonderful of Prem to submit this idea. I’m excited!
Prem, I live very close to Skylake. I often commute there by bicycle to visit my credit union, and I do agree with you that North Miami-Dade county does have interesting sites to see.

i knew him. i went to his funeral yesterday. i loved him :/
He didn’t deserve to lose his life, it all happened so quickly.. Knowing he was such a bubbly, kind-hearted, and amazing person.. it’s hard to not break into tears when you hear of his deathh.. ): He was so friendly.. I knew him and he didn’t deserve it..
We can’t let this go unnoticed. We need to do something. How can we learn more about this young man and what happened?
Agreed Miami Bicycle Coalition. I can’t believe there was not a word about this in the paper. I wonder who was behind the wheel of the car? Does anyone have the name of the driver?
A memorial bicycle ride is being planned in Rodolfo’s honor.
Felipe, you’re the one who posted this. and thus far I haven’t been able to find anything on google about this…
Ry, please keep us updated on the when/where of this ride.
Ry,
When is the memorial ride?
the memorial ride may actually be the November 27th Critical Mass ride.. it will be dedicated to Rodolfo Rojo & a ghost bike ( http://www.ghostbikes.org ) will be placed in his honor.. all ride details will be on the Miami Bike Scene blog when they become available
a letter from Rodolfo’s friend

Horrible news. This is not far from where I live, too. I find it bothersome that this went unreported for days. I’d like to know what happened with the driver. Is the friend okay as well?
wow that is tuff news to hear b/c it occurred so close to my home base in sans souci-aka n.mia. I rode that same route after the critical mass ride late Friday..It does seem like that whole area around the shores club & Kmart is not lit up at all..my condolences go out to the fam and friends…
I won’t be physically be in town on the 27th, as I will be visiting with family for Thanksgiving, but I will certainly be there in spirit.
Ry, may we place wreaths and/or flowers at the “ghost bicycle” site?
I’m Rudy’s cousin, and we are all so shoked with this tragedy. Even though I live in Mexico, I felt him so close, and will miss him a lot. Now, I’m concern about my aunt and my two cousins,Ana and Emilia, and I send them all my love, and I pray for Rudy, and for them.
I’m very sad since then, and can’t stop listening the song “I’ll be missing you -Puff Daddy”
Rudy, you will be always on my mind. I love you.
Sergio
Rodolfo was my wonderful son, he was always happy and full of life, he made my daughters and me laugh and enjoy every single day. I really cannot express the pain we feel. It is unbearable. The only thing that brings us comfort is that he was doing what he loved most. My family will never be the same, and I only wish nobody else should go through this horrible pain, please be careful.
Love you forever my love.
Your mom.
Rodolfo was my older brother. He always knew how to make me laugh. He had such a great spirit, always living each day with a smile on his face and laughing. Even when he made me mad, he would always cheer me up again. He was so happy with his new bike and bragging about how muscular his legs were. The pain we feel is unexplainable.
I love you bro and I will miss you forever.
Your sister Ana
Rudy you’ll alway in our hearts, i love you very much, and wherever you’re i wish you the best always, i know you’ll be okay ‘cuz u wre always nice, smart, funny and made us laught. Rudy, my big brother, I love you with all my heart and I miss you so much. You were such a kind and giving soul. You always made me feel so happy. I can’t stop thinking about you. I will love you forever and ever and nothing or no one will ever change that. This pain I feel eats away at my soul. Even though you were six years older than me, I always felt close to you.
I love you and I miss you.
Your Little Sister,
Emilia
