as they’re hit and runs, it’s hard for anyone to get information as to how the bicyclists were riding.
the only witness fled the scene.

The bicyclist was identified yesterday afternoon as 46-year old Yasmany Sosa Alfonso. No further details of the accident have been revealed. This is horrible; two in less than 7 days apart. And the Herald has yet to report on the death of the kid in North Miami. I would like to know if the victims' bikes had lights and how were they riding. I don't think the drivers are excusable as it doesn't appear in either case that the victims were riding recklessly, but it would be good information to have.

This really is getting out of control, they really need to start getting serious about security for bicyclists. It’s not safe!

My condolences to the family of this gentleman. What a tragedy that they had to discover his battered body after he was run down and left to die.

It wouldn’t surprise me if the driver didn’t even realize he hit someone. Perhaps thought he ran over some piece of debris on the road and kept going.

I’m amazed I no longer fear for my life while biking on the roads. And then as the cars pass me by and do this funny overcompensation when trying to go back to the middle of the road from the left (where they went to give me space) and end up all the way on the right, I wonder if maybe someone’ll overcompensate before they pass me.

This is in my neck of the woods. I can tell you the only thing bike-related in that area are a few bike racks in the new shopping center(further north in the map). This is why i was so happy to see bike lanes a few blocks from where i live. I even posted pics in the “Submit” section. I was on my bike on that street a while ago and the only thing that went through my mind was “well, this sure isnt safe! never again!”.

This is an old road and this part of the county has grown tremendously over the past few years. Also, at night time this street is pitch black for long stretches at a time.

Sad story indeed.
