Yes the salary's may cost us near a million but that is peanuts compared to what the County Commission can waste. I firmly believe Burgess must have concocted the retroactive pay to throw off Sally Heyman. He is a master of convoluted deals that you can' get your head around because your head is spinning too fast trying to understand it. The mayor's office total payroll is going down, he's just paying more to key people. Meanwhile, the manager, who lost power and responsibility to the mayor, is still paid $350k and his ACMs get equally crazy salaries. The manager needs to admit defeat and realize that cost savings need to come from HIS staff. The raises were granted in March and made retroactive through the previous September. It's just surprising that the mayor would take such bold action in something so inappropriate and with such poor timing. I guess that is a bonus of being a "strong mayor" maybe this should be reviewed.
