   As I wrote on Eye On Miami, Hold the Line does nothing to stop sprawl. It just forces development pressure into 5-acre lots, the worst kind of sprawl. Hold the Line does nothing to cluster development or promote transit. What Hold the Line does do is provide an easy answer to distract people from thinking about real progressive planning improvements. Any fan of progressive planning policies who attends this party is getting brainwashed.

   If that is indeed the case, and I wouldn’t know because this is first time that I have ever heard of this group, then I think any attendees who should go should roundly make this argument to anyone they strike up conversation with.

   There is no question that the zoning regulations outside the growth boundary are faulty, but it’s ignorant at best to claim that holding the line causes sprawl. If/when those regulations are made more stringent, holding the line will still be something we have to be vigilant of.
