Alcohol is permitted on Caltrain in the San Francisco Bay Area. Amtrak commuter trains also have snack bars with alcohol. Friday evenings some people will sometimes bring pizza on board to share.

Long Island Railroad and Metro-North both permit riders over the age of 21 to drink alcohol on the train. Some of the older trains on the New Haven line to Connecticut still have bar cars offering $2 beers. Nice to have a drink and mingle with fellow commuters as you are leaving the city after work.
