Metro Monday: Geico & Wildlife Conservation

Continuing on our commercial focus, is buying car insurance an ecologically friendly decision? Geico seems to think so. Insure your car with Geico and they make a donation to support wildlife conservation. Imagine that? Who knew your 15 mpg SUV could provide funds to conserve wildlife? Give me a break…

There is a component of good in providing the donation to the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA) to further the cause of wildlife conservation; however, there has been some negative publicity on this event by PETA and others of their genre… I suppose it depends on one’s viewpoint:

Does the AZA promote wildlife conservation? Or do they promote the removal of native species for pecuniary purposes?

Of course, this is a huge advertising gimmick, but that doesn’t mean that no good comes from it.

it’s better then car insurance that doesn’t make a donation! yes of course, if you have to buy car insurance anyways, picking the company can be an eco friendly decision. it’s not like people aren’t buying hybrids because of this little donation they’re making. i usually like the writing on this blog, but honestly it seems like this post is very biased and illogical.
