Transit Efficiency: See it for Yourself

This short video does an excellent job illustrating how transit is more efficient and sustainable than travel by private automobile. I believe this is Bogota, Colombia.

This would definitely entice more people to use the bus in Miami. It would also reduce pollution, traffic and on and on. In Manhattan they have these designated bus routes during rush hour. However, they are not permanent. Around 3:30pm transit officers lay down orange cones and separate a lane only for the bus. My friends make it from Manhattan (SOHO) to Westchester county in less than 40 minutes. Miami should take notice of this.

I would like to see bus lanes on Alton in south Miami Beach. Bus lanes would be much cheaper and faster than a streetcar. People would have a different image of buses if buses passed cars in traffic instead of cars being “stuck behind the bus.”

Avoiding traffic (and possibly traffic lights?) would help buses stay (slightly more) on schedule and make the trip time more competitive with cars.

What does it matter, though? The S bus is already a disaster to ride. The last thing it needs is more passengers…
