Wow, their government must have the will to get things done. 27 miles will serve a huge population. If only our local politicians had the will to do something this major.
This is the DALLAS-FT WORTH area, a place with so much sprawl it makes Miami’s look confined and rather urban by comparison.
Even the Phoenix-Tempe area (King of Sprawl?) is going forward with a new light rail line.
Bottom line, if these places can do it, MIAMI can definitely do it. The Miami area is already much more suitable for this type of transit, it’s just a matter of getting things done. I foresee the FEC Corridor fulfilling this role, but it’s probably going to take a while.
FEC won’t be light rail, it would be heavy rail with large commuter trains. As they would be sharing the line with cargo trains.
I would like to see two streetcar lines. The current planned one from Downtown to Midtown/Civic Center area, and one going down through Little Havana connecting to the Brickell Station. Maybe eventually something going through the grove, but grovers are haters and refuse to support anything that makes Miami as a whole better.
